Update: Friday, April 3
Please log in to EDSBY and check out our Homeroom for all further communication.
Update: Thursday, April 2
Next week, we will begin the next phase of Learn at Home. The Ministry of Education has outlined that students in Grade 8 should be engaged in learning activities each day for 2 hours. This is an entirely new process for all of us and it is going to take some time to get things up to speed, but we will learn and navigate through this together.
I am not entirely sure what our learning will look like as we move forward, however, I will be using Edsby to communicate with the class. As things progress, we may add other platforms that are approved by the GECDSB to connect and learn together. If I have anything to share with you, I will do that on Edsby.
This means that I won't be updating our Weebly site any more.
What do you need to do to prepare for next week? Right now, I am asking that you check Edsby each day, make sure you have access to Office 365, develop or maintain a routine so that you may fulfill your time commitment to this process and be flexible as we work through this new landscape together.
Update: Wednesday, April 1
We now have 8 FULL MATHALONS (250 gold stars) and 5 HALF MATHALONS (125 gold stars) on Knowledgehook! Outstanding! You earn a gold star for every correct answer. However, if you answer a question incorrectly on your first try, you have to go back and complete another version of that question to earn the star. (It sort of reminds me of the setup of Angry Birds, unless that reference is too old). Keep up the great work!
Please continue to write in your journal and do some reading each day. I will be posting additional work in the coming days, but please access the Week at a Glance below for additional activities this week.
Update: Monday, March 30 (9:30 am)
I have assigned the Algebra portions from Knowledgehook. The majority of this is review, however, there are some fractions that get mixed in there. When you multiply fractions, all you do is multiply the numerator x numerator and the denominator x denominator. Remember, even whole numbers can be shown as fractions (4 is the same as 4/1).
We have 5 FULL MATHALONS completed already as well as 2 HALF MATHALON finishers. Great work 8D!!!
It's important that you work through these math problems so that you have a complete understanding. If you select an incorrect answer, please go back and complete a few more questions to practice that skill. I can see which questions you are having difficulty with, and when you go back to practice that skill!!!
Update: Sunday, March 29 (7:30 pm)

I have attached the Intermediate Week at a Glance .pdf below. In the Literacy section below, I have suggested starting a personal journal. I think this will be an excellent way to memorialize what it going on right now.
Take care and stay safe,

- Start a personal journal to record what is happening in the world for the next couple of weeks. This can be a store bought journal or one that you make and personalize yourself. Start with a message to yourself that you will be able to look back on one day. These are crazy times we are living in. Your kids probably won't believe you when you tell them what happened. Date each day for future reference. More to come on this project...) Keep adding to your journal. Things you might include: Clippings from the newspaper, pictures you've printed or hand drawn, what you learned today, how you managed to pass the time, how you're feeling, how life will be different when we go back to school, inspirational quotes...
- Edit your essay to prepare for oral presentation
- Use the rubric to practise your presentation
- Read 20 minutes each day
- Use this interactive tool or .pdf to guide your thinking about your current reading selection

- Our next unit is Patterning/Algebra with a focus on representing Linear Equations (graph, concrete model, table of values, pattern rule and equation). There are some activities on the following sites that intro those concepts.
